Missed contraceptive rules

To help prevent further episodes of missed contraception, you could consider;

• changing to a long acting reversible contraceptive like the implant or a coil.
• setting an alarm so you remember to use the contraceptive on time.

What should I do if I am at risk of pregnancy?

• If you have lost contraceptive effect within the last 5 days, you may benefit from emergency contraception. UK patients can click here to have an assessment for emergency contraception.
• Irish patients can get emergency contraception from a pharmacy, GP or family planning service.
• Perform a pregnancy test at least 3 weeks from the missed pill episode.
• If the pregnancy test is positive please see your GP and stop using the contraceptive.
• On restarting your contraception please use condoms until the contraceptive if fully effective again.
